Athens is the capital city of Greece. It was a state for the arts and was known for its learning and philosophy. Eventually, Athens was taken over by Sparta, its rival city. Throughout its history, Athens had major declines and struggles.
Athens regained itself during the 19th century and held the first olympic games in 1896 This continues today as a tradition. As years passed, Athens swarmed with people, mostly imigrants coming from Asia Minor.
Athens is positioned over Attica, which is a famous basin. It lays between a number of hills and is surrounded by nature. Athens has a warm climate and is not very often cold.
The city has many architectual designs and is known for its beauty and famous landmarks. Its history brings many tourists to the city and has become very popular over the years.
